Policies and Procedures for Military and Veteran Students

  • Apply for admission to Davidson-Davie Community College. All admission requirements must be completed before your VA benefits will begin. This includes receiving all transcripts of prior training.
  • Service members eligible for Tuition Assistance must first receive approval from an Educational Services Officer (ESO) or counselor within the Military Service prior to enrolling.
  • Prior to seeing a certifying official, complete the Montgomery GI Bill® Application (VA Form 22-1990) for Chapter 30 and Chapter 1606. Chapter 35 students, survivors and dependents will complete VA Form 22-5490. These forms can be downloaded from the VA website.
  • Bring a copy of your DD-214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty)
  • If you are in the Reserves, bring a copy of your NOBE (Notice of Basic Eligibility). The commanding officer must sign this form.
  • Complete and submit the Davidson-Davie Veterans Student Contract.
  • When you register for classes, remember that we will certify you only for classes required for your degree program. Any courses taken outside your degree program are your financial responsibility.
  • If you are taking any classes that will substitute for a class in your major, you must provide documentation immediately.
  • The VA will not pay for courses that you have previously passed with a “D” grade or better.
  • The VA will not pay for courses for which transfer credit has been granted or courses passed by a proficiency exam.
  • It is the responsibility of the student to report any changes in your status to the VA office. These changes include adding or dropping a class, course substitutions, withdrawal and changing a program of study/major or readmission to school.
  • Changes in enrollment or status that are not reported can result in an overpayment, a lapse in payment or a reduction in your benefits.
  • Students are responsible for paying tuition and fees by the due date they are given at the time they register for classes. It takes approximately 30 to 90 days to start receiving your VA benefits once Davidson-Davie has certified you.
