Summer Camps 2024

Want summer camps to keep your elementary, middle or high school students active all summer long? Would you want your student engaged and inspired in hands-on activities that could spark an interest in science and technology, community leadership, sports, or the arts? If you answered YES to any of these questions, then we have a camp (or multiple camps) for you! With over 25 camp experiences for a variety of age groups, your camper will not only have a blast but learn along the way.

Registration

In order to fully register your camper, you will need to fill out the “Camper Info Form” by clicking the first button below and then click the second “Register & Pay For Camps” button.

  1. Click on “Register and Pay for Camps” button above
  2. Fill out the Camper Information Google form. On the second page of the form, there is a link to the payment site.
  3. Once on the payment site,  search for the term “camp”
  4. Select the camp(s) you’d like, then click the “Next” button to proceed to payment.

Please register with your camper’s name and information.

*You do not have to complete any type of conduct training or set up any further accounts that you may get emailed about after registration.

All-day camps will require that students bring their lunches. We can also provide a safe environment for other lunch breaks should you choose two half-day (non-related) camps for your campers. You would need to email us to advise us of your desire for your child to remain on campus between camps.

We will provide light snacks/water during the camp experience.

We invite you to attend our Summer Camp Open House on May 2, 2024 from 6-7:30 p.m.

At this event, you can explore where your camper will be during the day as well as learn about the pickup and drop-off locations. The Davidson-Davie aquarium will be open and Sunset Slush will be attending.

If you prefer to use a paper registration, you can view/download our Summer Camps Registration Form (pdf) and then either fax it to 336.249.0379, mail the form to the Davidson Campus PO Box listed on the form or drop it off in-person to the Davidson Campus Business Office, located on the second floor of the Brooks Student Center.

Archery Target

Archery | $110

Historically, the bow has played a major role in various international societies and civilizations and has recently been featured in books and films. This camp experience will cover the basics of competitive archery including form, rules and training (including strength training, which maximizes an athlete’s ability and safety). We’re excited to bring the use of the bow to life and introduce your child to the sport of archery!

Minecraft Modders

Black Rocket – Minecraft Modders | $175

Use your favorite game to learn the basics of modding and foundations of programming. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods! Introductory coding will also be taught through a simulated environment inspired by Minecraft. Student projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students must own a Java version of Minecraft at home. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.

Battle Royale Fortnite

Black Rocket – Battle Royale: Make Your Fortnite Style Video Game | $175

Fans of Fortnite we need you! Instead of playing the game, design your own. Using a professional 3D game development software, build levels and assets inspired by popular Battle Royale games like Fortnite. This course includes cartoonish action and battle sequences. Student-created games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

Fencing | $110

Learn the art and history of one of the original modern Olympic sports – FENCING! This sports camp is geared for absolute beginners. Skill development, conditioning, footwork, blade work and tactics will be covered. A series of games and drills will teach the student the essentials of fencing. By week’s end, students should be able to fence in a bout.

Black Rocket – Roblox Makers | $175

Unlock the power of ROBLOX® Studio, the world creation tool used by real-world ROBLOX® developers! Learn how to build 3D models and create an adventure in your ROBLOX® world. Has your teen shown interest in fashion design? In this camp, we will be exploring components used to design clothing. We will explore fabric types, work on designing a fabric of our own, learn about sketching designs and learn basic sewing machine skill. Our main project of the week will include repurposing an old prom/wedding dress and hosting a fashion show. This camp is for all future fashionistas out there!

Black Rocket – Pokémon® Masters: Designers & 3D Makers Unite! | $175

Calling all PokeMasters who want to be the designers of the future! Use your Pokemon imagination and bring your ideas to life. Begin by creating your own digital Pokemon-style custom playing card game. Progress onto designing action figures, jewelry, and toys in professional-level modeling software. Learn how to prepare a model for 3D printing and create a design portfolio to showcase your work! Black Rocket – Video Game Animation | $175

Take your game design to the next level by creating and animating your own character sprites, objects, and backgrounds. Start with a name, develop the character’s personality, signature moves, special powers, and a storyline. Finish with a fully animated character to be used in future games. Students do not need any prior experience in game design, animation, or sketching. Student-created animations will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family.

Aquarist for a Day | $85

Do you have a fascination with fish? Are you amazed by amphibians? Captivated by corals? Spend a day finding out what it takes to care for these delicate creatures at Davidson-Davie’s Zoo and Aquarium facility. You’ll be a part of our laboratory operations as you help care for the Zoo and Aquarium Science Program’s animal collection on campus. In just one day, we’ll discover hidden features of water with scientific water quality testing, feed everything from the sharks to anemones, provide enrichment through animal painting and even get “elbow deep” to keep the animals healthy. Come get your feet wet as an aquarist for a day!

AI Adventures

Black Rocket - A.I. Adventures – Intro to Machine Learning | $175

Explore the world of artificial intelligence to design fully interactive games and experiences using cutting-edge technology. This program combines artificial intelligence with coding to create an unforgettable learning adventure. Students will construct machine learning models that use image and text recognition within block-based coding software to build a portfolio of projects. Student-created projects will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

High Adventure Camp | $350

Join us for a week of thrilling adventures. Activities include swimming, hiking, paddle boarding/kayaking and ropes course. Activities will be confirmed 1 week before camp. This is a high energy camp. Students will need to be able to swim and hike. In case of excessive rain, indoor activities will be utilized instead of outdoor activities.

YouTube Content Creators

Black Rocket - YouTube Content Creators | $175

Find your voice and leave your mark on the world! Whether you are six or sixty, it’s time to start a career as the next YouTube star. Explore the variety of content and personalities that exist on YouTube and how to find your own niche. Learn the Dos and Don’ts of the platform and how to practice good digital citizenship. Develop your on- camera presence, your own channel branding, and professional editing skills. Take home a plan for launching your own channel with the content created in class! Student projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Students work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

“The Total Image” – Learn the latest trends in our beauty industry from the experience of one of our licensed cosmetology instructors. Campers will try some fantasy/special hair and makeup effects. Our camp sessions will be filled with team building activities that boost self-esteem and positivity. We want them to leave each day feeling confident and pampered!

Yoga Class

Mindfulness & Yoga (1/2 Day) | $25

Participants join in a welcoming environment to learn about themselves and the world around them, a basis of yoga. We will learn yoga postures and relaxing breathing techniques, all of them presented in a fun and age-appropriate way. We will also spend the day doing a mindfulness walk around the beautiful Davidson campus and complete creative projects that allow the participants to express themselves through art and writing.

This camp is suitable for anyone but especially those who may enjoy a less stimulating environment that offers time to process, reflect, and have fun with others.

Whether you want to be the next pro gamer, streamer, or gamecaster this course will teach you the basics to get started! No longer just a hobby, eSports is the fastest growing career for the next generation. Over 400 million people watched YouTube videos and Twitch streams of video game competitions this year alone! In this course, students will develop competitive game-play skills in Black Rocket’s new eSports App, learn how to produce commentary for live tournaments, use professional streaming software, and most importantly practice online safety. There are so many fun and unique ways to use fiber in our world. In this camp, we will explore some of the techniques used to create with fiber. We will learn how to hand sew, dye fabric, the difference between crochet, knitting and loom knitting, felting and how to use a sewing machine. Participants will be so interested in the hands on aspect of camp, they won’t even realize they are learning life skills that are so important, like sewing on a button and repurposing a T-shirt. Fun with fiber is full of possibilities.

On your marks, get set, create! Blast off in making your first 3D Mario Kart® and Crash Team Racing® style game! Design your own tracks and customize your karts and characters. Using professional 3D game development software, students will combine their creations into their own kart racing game that they can play with friends and family at home. Machining & Engineering | $150

Campers will learn how things are produced – from cars to the knobs on radios. We will learn about the different design and prototyping processes that products go through from original idea or concept to the finished product. We will also cover machining processes that are used to make these products, including manual machining, CNC machining and 3D printing. Participants will have hands-on activities to make projects of their own.

Black Rocket - YouTube FX Masters | $175

Do you love movies with exciting special effects, like The Avengers, Star Wars, or Harry Potter? Amaze your friends by swinging a lightsaber or blasting fire from your hands and becoming a master of the illusions used by Hollywood artists to create visual effects magic. Whether you want to enhance your YouTube videos or create a cool scene to amaze your friends; this class teaches the tools you need. Experiment with visual effects as you learn the dynamics of camera angles, editing, graphic layering, and sound effects. Then watch as your new creations take your channel content to the next level! Make Your First 3D Video Game!

Black Rocket – Make Your First 3D Video Game | $175

Try this new version of a Black Rocket classic! This class allows you to develop a game concept that goes well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design classes. Students will learn the physics behind 3D games, explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling flow of gameplay, and story telling. During our afternoon time together, it will be “hands-on” to sew, make pottery and enjoy music through dance!

StormQuest - "Epic Adventure" | $250

Our final StormQuest adventure begins with our need to “Escape from Mt. Everest”. Was George Mallory really the first to summit Mt. Everest? To find out, we’ll need to recover his missing camera – and live to tell the tale! Learn more about the earth’s tallest mountain, the basics of orienteering and some of history’s bravest adventurers.
Our afternoons will be spent “in the woods”. Learn how to survive and thrive in the great outdoors! We will be learning skills that make the outdoors come alive with adventure.
Learn to make a fire, tie knots and make a shelter out of basic items – just for starters! Be prepared to go for a hike and know what to do when you encounter wildlife. We’ll even experience our own version of “orienteering”. It is sure to be a wonderful adventure!

StormQuest - Escape From The Smithsonian | $250

This week, we plan to “Escape from the Smithsonian”! Dinosaurs, gemstones, and whales…oh, my! This race through one of America’s most treasured museums will put your scientific knowledge to the test. Will you escape and catch the bad guys? You have to solve clues, complete STEM activities and problem solve to complete the escape by the end of the camp week! After lunch break, students will join the Davidson-Davie Zoo & Aquarium team for an up close learning experience in the zoo & aquarium lab on campus.

Want to learn the world’s fastest-growing programming language favored by Google, NASA, YouTube, and the CIA? ​Learn how to code with Python to create engaging apps and games. Each lesson takes you step-by-step on a programming path that will let you challenge friends with fun content you create from start to finish!​ Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Black Rocket – Make Your First Video Game! | $175

If you love playing video games, this is the camp for you! Make your first video game in this one-of-a-kind class that shows you the keys to designing your first 2D platformer game. Conceptualization, play experience, challenge levels, graphics, sounds, and simple coding are just some of the concepts that we’ll explore. No prior experience necessary, just a desire to have fun. Student-created games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family.
