August 23, 2025 – The Davidson-Davie STORM completed a dominant few days with two wins on Saturday against the USC Salkehatchie Indians and the Patrick & Henry Patriots, both games ending in three sets.
The final set scores against the Indians were 25-12 25-16 25-22. The STORM were led by Carly Edwards with 12 kills and Cameron Ostle with eight kills. Chloe Painter also contributed four aces and 37 assists, while Anna Edwards added eight more kills and three blocks, alongside Lydia Jones having five kills and three blocks.
The story of the match was once again Davidson’s attacks, which were too overwhelming for the Indians to handle. Kills were spread around the whole entire team, and the taller presence at the net altered attacks from Salkehatchie, forcing errors and blocks. The Indians started to settle in during the third set, resulting in the closer score, but the STORM were still as dominant as ever. Ostle had six of her eight kills in the third set, while Carly Edwards had five of her 12.
The second match for the STORM was just as dominant as the first, with the final set scores being 25-9 25-6 25-13 against the Patriots. The STORM were led by Kaitlyn McCoy with seven kills, Carly Edwards with six kills, and both Ostle and Anna Edwards with five kills. Painter also had four aces, two kills, and 24 assists.
Even though this game featured Davidson capitalizing on mistakes made by Patrick & Henry throughout all three sets, this presented a chance for some players to go out and make some plays, including Savannah Stone getting two aces in the first set. The STORM were prepared to come out and win the day.
“We were really focused on staying disciplined in our execution and keeping our energy consistent throughout each set,” head coach Emma Carter said post-game. “The team did a really good job of staying engaged and maintaining intensity no matter where they were put in the lineup. It allowed us to keep control of both matches from beginning to end.”
It was great for the STORM to pick up two great wins in front of a packed crowd as well, due to “Market City Day”, where the Market City Volleyball Club players and parents came out to support Davidson in matching t-shirts and filled out Brinkley!
The STORM return to action on the road against Louisburg College at 6:00 p.m. EST on Monday, Aug. 25.
