Fire Protection Technology – Continuing Education

Fire Protection Technology – Continuing Education

In July 2025, the NC Community College System approved a pathway to offer all the Fire Protection Technology Associate’s Degree core classes through a Continuing Education option.

This is a great benefit for firefighters seeking to earn their 2-year degree or a selection of classes for career ladder advancement. This option means that the tuition and fees for the class are waived and the only cost for the student will be for the book. These classes will also transfer to any NC Community College that delivers the Fire Protection Technology degree program or has a program that includes certain FIP prefix courses. This applies only to the FIP prefix courses in the curriculum. The class length will be the same, typically 8 weeks, with college-level coursework required. All the classes will be completely online using Davidson-Davie Community College’s Moodle platform. Students will be responsible for obtaining the required textbooks for each course.
