DCCC Wins New Federal Grant to Support Students

August 18, 2020 – Davidson County Community College has been awarded a new federal grant that will total almost $1.5 million over five years to support first-generation, low-income, and students with disabilities. This TRIO grant program, called Student Support Services, helps students be successful in ways that lead to program completion, graduation, and transfer to four-year schools.

Through this grant award, as part of its existing TRIO Student Support Services Program, DCCC will provide participants with comprehensive and consistent educational and support services grounded in evidence-based strategies. These services will include academic tutoring and advising, information on financial aid programs, assistance in completing financial aid applications, financial literacy, and support for applying for undergraduate school programs. Moreover, students will be consistently assessed, monitored on their progress, and provided support for their diverse academic and non-cognitive needs to ensure that they persist, succeed, and graduate.

“Through our TRIO Student Support Services program, as well as other programs throughout the college, we work to address challenges that students face in their daily lives so that we can support them in being successful,” said Dr. Rhonda Coats, vice president for student affairs.
