STORM Cruise to Three-Set Victory Over Titans

STORM Cruise to Three-Set Victory Over Titans

By Dylan Branscome

The Davidson-Davie STORM swept the Guilford Tech Titans in three sets, 25-2, 25-10, 25-9 at Brinkley Gym on Thursday. Davidson is now 20-5 on the season with a 6-2 record in Region 10 play.

The STORM were led by Anna Edwards (10 kills) and Kaitlyn McCoy (three aces, nine kills). Ciara Major also added five kills and Carly Edwards had three aces and four kills. Davidson had 13 aces overall.

The first set was arguably the most dominant set of the season from the STORM. They started off on an 8-1 run led by five kills from McCoy and did not let up from there. The Titans didn’t score another point until the score was 20-1, showing a true run of dominance by Davidson. McCoy had all three of her aces in this set, including the set-winning point, and seven of her nine kills in this set. Carly Edwards also had three aces, and Anna Edwards had six of her 10 in this set alone.

Sets two and three were just as dominant for the STORM. Anna Edwards and Major each had three kills in the second, and Carly Edwards, Lydia Jones, and Chloe Painter all had a pair of kills to contribute to a 25-10 set victory. The third set heavily relied on errors from the Titans and a few aces as well, as Ella Cooler, Faith Powell, and Savannah Stone all recorded an ace in this set. Major and McCoy led the STORM this set in kills with two.

With this win at Brinkley Gym, the STORM are 9-1 at home. The dominance at home was a focus before the season started for this team, according to Head Coach Emma Carter.

“This team is very passionate about defending home court, they even made that one of their goals for this season,” Carter said post-game. “It’s a very fun environment and the energy from the crowd makes it a great atmosphere to play in.”

The STORM return to action this Saturday in a tri-match against the Richard Bland Statesmen at 10:00 A.M. EST and the Louisburg Hurricanes at 4:00 P.M. EST at Brinkley Gym.
