Programs with Special Criteria (PWSC)
Some programs at Davidson-Davie have special criteria for Admissions due to the programs having a competitive entry. After completing the Davidson-Davie application and enrollment process, you will then submit your Special Criteria application for the program of your choice. Students may apply to DDCC at any time and complete pre-requisites in preparation for their PWSC application. All PWSC programs begin each Fall semester.
Programs of study designated as Special Criteria include: Associate Degree Nursing (all options), Practical Nurse Education, Dental Assisting, Aquarium Science Technology, Zoo Science Technology and Surgical Technology.
AQUARIUM SCIENCE technology
- A two-year Associate in Applied Science degree.
- Program begins each fall semester
- Program includes two fall, two spring, and one summer semester.
- Aquarium Science courses are held during the day at our Davidson campus.
- Most Aquarium Science courses meet in person.
- Work-based learning courses are required during three semesters at partnering animal facilities.
- All courses in this program must be passed with a final grade of a C or higher. This includes all program courses and general education courses.
- One year diploma program is available as a possible option for students already holding a Bachelor degree in a related field.
Associate Degree Nursing (ADN)
Traditional Option
- A two year associate degree program which leads to becoming a Registered Nurse (RN).
- All coursework is 100% face-to-face. Remote options are not possible.
- All classes are held during the day at our Davidson campus location.
- Clinical hours may be held day, evening, weekends, and weekdays.
- Students must be listed on the NA1 Registry prior to enrolling in any NUR courses.
- Students must have BIO 165/166 or BIO 168/169 series completed prior to enrolling in any NUR courses.
- Beginning for our Fall 2025 competition students must have completed the set of BIO 165 and BIO 166 or BIO 168 in order to apply for our ADN program.

Associate Degree Nursing
LPN to ADN Option
- A one-year (fall and spring semester) associate degree program for current LPNs to become a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Applicants must be currently employed as an LPN.
- This program is a hybrid of virtual classes (attendance required), online coursework, and travel to the Davidson campus.
- Program orientation and exams will be administered on the Davidson campus.
- Students will be required to travel to the Davidson/Davie County service area each week to participate in clinical rotations. Clinical placement outside of our college’s service area is no longer an option.
- All seven prerequisite courses must be completed with a final grade of a C or higher prior to applying to this program.
- These courses include: BIO 165/166 or BIO 168/169; ENG 111; ENG 112 or 113 or 114; HUM 115 or ART 111 or MUS 110 or PHI 240 or other approved course; and PSY 150 and PSY 241.
- Applicants must have an active LPN license without restrictions in the state of North Carolina or hold an active multi-state license without restrictions that is a part of the Nursing Compact Agreement in order to be eligible for the program.
- Applicants must show documentation of having worked a minimum of 3,328 hours as an LPN in North Carolina or a state within the compact agreement in order to compete for a seat. Verification of such work will be required prior to beginning the program.

Associate Degree Nursing
Regionally Increasing Baccalaureate Nurses (RIBN) Option
- A four-year commitment in partnership with North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University. As such, students must go through the application process and be accepted at both Davidson-Davie and NC A&T University.
- Students will complete coursework at both Davidson-Davie and NC A&T State University during the first three years.
- Students will complete prerequisite/supportive courses their first year and begin NUR prefix courses during their second year. Upon the completion of their NUR courses after their third year they will be eligible to take the NCLEX-RN.
- Students will complete their fourth year at NC A&T State University to earn their Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree.
- Students cannot accelerate the program. In other words, even if students have pre-requisite/supportive courses the sequence of coursework will still take 4 years to complete.

Dental Assisting
- A one-year diploma program (fall, spring, summer semester) which leads to becoming a Dental Assistant II.
- Courses meet in person at our Davidson campus.
- Dental Assisting courses are held during afternoon and evening hours.
- Program consists of 350 clinical hours.
- Dental Assisting courses must be passed with a final grade of a B or higher.
- General Education courses must be passed with a final grade of a C or higher.

Practical Nurse Education (PNE)
- A one-year diploma program which leads to becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
- All coursework is 100% face-to-face. Remote options are not possible.
- All classes are held in the evening hours with occasional weekends at our Davie campus location in Mocksville.
- Clinical hours may be held day, evening, weekends, and weekdays.
- Students must be listed on the NA1 Registry prior to enrolling in any NUR courses.
- Students must have BIO 165/166 or BIO 168/169 series completed prior to enrolling in any NUR courses.
- Beginning for our Fall 2025 competition, students must have completed the set of BIO 165 and BIO 166 or BIO 168 in order to apply for our PNE program.

Surgical Technology
- A two-year Associate in Applied Science degree which leads to becoming a Certified Surgical Technologist.
- Program begins every other fall semester with the next cohort beginning the fall of 2025.
- Class sessions are held during the day at our Davie campus location in Mocksville.
- Clinical hours are typically held during the day on weekdays but are dependent upon clinical site hours.
- Program includes two fall, two spring, and one summer semester.
- Students can begin working on prerequisite courses while awaiting the next enrollment to begin in fall of 2025.
- Fall 2025 packets are expected to be out in mid-October.
Zoo Science Technology
- A two-year Associate in Applied Science degree.
- Program begins each fall semester
- Program includes two fall, two spring, and one summer semester.
- Zoological Science courses are held during the day at our Davidson campus.
- Most Zoological Science courses meet in person.
- Students will travel to off-site locations for additional coursework.
- Work-based learning courses are required during four semesters at partnering animal facilities.
- All courses in this program must be passed with a final grade of a C or higher. This includes all program courses and general education courses.
General Information
- All nursing programs are competitive entry which means that after applying to Davidson-Davie as a Pre-Nursing student you will then complete and submit an additional application to the nursing program of your choice. Both applications are submitted electronically.
- All nursing enrollment packets provide detailed information and instructions for all requirements and steps needed along with the points ranking system rubric. Always read over and follow those directives carefully.
- All nursing programs are Fall start only.
- Nursing program applications are accepted and reviewed each Spring semester.
- All nursing program applicants must score a minimum Total TEAS Score of 62. View the TEAS Detailed Score Report that is required to be submitted with your nursing application.
- Students are welcome and encouraged to apply to Davidson-Davie at any time as a Pre-Nursing student and begin working on any prerequisite courses that may be needed in order to prepare your nursing program application.
- Prerequisite courses may be taken online, virtual, or in-person at Davidson-Davie All course final grades must be a C or higher. You may also transfer in courses from other institutions by providing official transcripts to our Admissions Office. Transcripts will be evaluated by our Records department for review of credits given. Anatomy courses must be taken at the same university but we will accept anatomy courses from different North Carolina Community Colleges.
- Prerequisite courses, depending on the nursing program, may include:
- BIO 165 and BIO 166 or BIO 168 and BIO 169 (no course substitutions)
- PSY 150 and PSY 241 (no course substitutions)
- ENG 111 and ENG 112 or ENG 114; COM 231
- HUM 115 (preferred) or ART 111 or MUS 110 or PHI 240 or other approved course.
- Prerequisite courses, depending on the nursing program, may include:
- Students cannot miss more than 10% of class, lab, and clinical times. In most cases, this equates to approximately 1-2 days each semester. Students who exceed the attendance requirements will be removed from the program.
- BIO 165/166 or BIO 168/169 courses must be completed with a final grade of C or higher prior to enrolling in any NUR courses.
- Students must purchase textbooks and uniforms in addition to paying tuition and fees. Textbooks can cost between $1,000 and $2,000 while uniforms can cost between $150 and $300.
- Class, lab, and clinical times will vary each semester. Students must be willing to attend course sessions as scheduled. This includes day, evening, and weekend hours.
- Students are placed into clinical settings their first semester and must pass the clinical clearance process the summer before they enter the program. This includes providing evidence of vaccination/immunization to several diseases, which may include COVID-19 and influenza. Failure to meet established deadlines will result in removal from the program.
- Students will be placed into clinical rotations by the program. Reasons, such as personal life/work schedules will not be considered when placing students in clinical rotations. Students should be able to attend clinicals anytime they are not in class. Depending on the semester, students may be in clinicals up to 3 times a week.
- Students should anticipate spending 20-30 hours per week studying/completing coursework outside of the scheduled course times.
- Students must earn a B (80%) or higher in their NUR coursework and C or higher in their supportive (BIO, COM, ENG, HUM, PSY) coursework to remain enrolled in NUR-prefix courses.
