THOMASVILLE, N.C. … Davidson County Community College basketball player Isiah Gill is the second 2015-2016 team member taking his skills to a four-year program next year. The Storm guard from Rocky Mount, Va., signed a scholarship agreement to play for Bluefield College in Bluefield, Va. during a ceremony Thursday afternoon in Brinkley Gym.
Teammate Tre Williams signed to play for Claflin University in Orangeburg, S.C. in late February.
Head Coach Matt Ridge says Gill played a key role in the team’s success during his two years at DCCC, including earning a berth in the 2016 National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division III national tournament. The team finished fourth in the nation after winning the District VII championship and completing the regular season as co-champions of Region X.
As a sophomore, Gill averaged 16.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while making 45 percent of attempted three-point field goals.
“Isiah’s ability to make shots at such a high percentage certainly contributed to DCCC finishing as the second leading scoring team in the nation this past season,” Ridge said. “Bluefield is not only getting a big-time basketball player but someone with incredible integrity. Isiah will do extremely well at Bluefield College and beyond.”
Gill is a graduate of High Point Christian Academy where he was also a prolific three-point shooter. He is scheduled to receive his associate in arts degree from DCCC in May.
“I’m very thankful for Coach Ridge. He pushed me for the past two years to help me get this scholarship,” Gill said. “My two years at DCCC were great. I worked hard in the classroom to get where I’m at and to get a scholarship, so I’m very thankful and blessed.”
Richard Morgan, head coach for the Bluefield Rams, welcomes a player of Gill’s caliber following a year when his team qualified for postseason play but graduates six seniors.
“We want to recruit guys from winning programs, and we feel we’ve got that here,” Morgan said.
Bluefield competes in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics as well as the National Christian College Athletic Association as members of the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
