New Podcast!

New Podcast!

Greetings readers! This semester we are launching a new podcast where we talk to people involved in various aspects of teaching and learning here at Davidson-Davie Community College. We also hope to talk to folks at other community colleges in and around our region.

Why this podcast now? One of the reasons we’re doing this is because most podcasts in the area of teaching, learning and technology focus on four-year colleges and universities. Needless to say, community colleges are doing a lot of good work when it comes to teaching and learning design and so it’s important to raise the visibility of these contributions.

For our first episode, we’re interviewing the Director of International Education here at Davidson-Davie Community College, Suzanne LaVenture. Suzanne has been the director for 12 years. She has taught Spanish and Humanities at the College since 1994. In 2021, Davidson-Davie received the Senator Paul Simon Award for comprehensive internationalization which is the highest award an institution can receive. Other programs she has developed at International Education include International Night, the Passport Events series, the Scholars of Global Distinction program, and our study abroad programs. I think that especially with the global nature of business and the impacts we’ve seen on supply chains brought on by the pandemic, most of us recognize the importance of being aware of how we are all interconnected, even though this connectedness might not be easily visible to us. I really enjoyed learning more about Suzanne’s work and I think you will too!
