Lexington Farmer’s Market Chooses DCCC Student Design for Summer Poster

April 30, 2018 – Five Davidson County Community College students were given the opportunity to design the official 2018 Lexington Farmer’s Market poster. The students, Daniel Shronts, Tyler Speelman, Veronica Magana, Anna Koonts, and Brandon Hedrick, are on track to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in Digital Media Production in DCCC’s School of Business, Engineering, and Technical Studies.

During a class session on campus, each student presented their designs, including various versions, sketches, prints, and digital renderings. The Lexington Farmer’s Market board, staff, and others attended.

“We are exceptionally pleased by the quality of work that the Davidson County Community College students presented to us,” said Jennifer Rosecrans, Board Member of the Lexington Farmer’s Market.  “We hope this this is a project we can repeat each market season and one that will further build a relationship between DCCC and the Lexington Farmers Market.”

Two students, Anna Koonts and Daniel Shronts, were asked to develop their designs further.  The students incorporated feedback from the board and resubmitted the designs. Ultimately, the board chose Anna Koonts as the overall winner and will use her design to promote the upcoming farmer’s market season.

“I’ve been drawing ever since I could pick up a pencil. I’ve always had a raw, creative talent,” said Koonts. “The digital media program has really helped expand my drawing experience. I really enjoy the animation and illustration aspects.”  Koonts describes her poster design as aligning with her own distinct style. “It’s fun and has a cartoon-like feel.” She will remain in contact with the Lexington Farmer’s Market throughout the process of introducing the new poster to the community.

“The design industry requires prowess in craftsmanship, communication, and visual problem-solving.” DCCC Digital Media Production instructor Jeffrey Pubantz said. “These students have demonstrated an elaborate understanding of these aspects and this project has given them the opportunity to develop these skills even further.”

All five posters will be displayed at the Lexington Farmer’s Market this summer.
