International Student Procedures

Applying to Davidson-Davie Community College

  1. Complete Online Application
    1. Email a copy of your passport to internationalstudent@davidsondavie.edu after you submit your online application. We will then send you the International Student Application Addendum to complete and return online.
    2. You will need to decide on your intended degree program. Choose from: Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Applied Science. See our specific programs available to international students.
  2. Submit financial evidence to internationalstudent@davidsondavie.edu
    1. Evidence should prove student’s ability to cover the cost of attendance for at least one year at Davidson-Davie. This includes tuition, fees, and all living expenses.
    2. The documentary evidence must be in the form of either a bank statement signed by a bank official or a letter on official bank letterhead signed by a bank official. This documentation must be in English and converted to U.S. dollars.
    3. If the student is being sponsored, the sponsor(s) will complete the F-1 Student Guarantee of Financial Support.
  3. Meet English language requirement in one of the following ways.
    1. A minimum total score of 60 on the TOEFL iBT® Test.
    2. A minimum overall band score of 6.0 on the IELTS™
    3. Meeting benchmarks using college-approved placement tests.
    4. Successful completion of a college-level English course at a US college or university
    5. Students who have obtained their secondary school diploma and/or a bachelor’s degree from a country on the English Language Requirement Exemptions list are exempt.
    6. Exceptions to the policies above need to be approved by the Principal Designated School Official (PDSO)
  4. Send college or university transcripts to Davidson-Davie (optional)
    1. You only need to send transcripts to Davidson-Davie if you think you may receive transfer credit.
    2. All transcripts from colleges and universities outside the U.S. need to be evaluated by a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) recognized member before they can be reviewed for possible transfer credit. IEE: Preferred Transcript Evaluation Service
    3. All U.S. official transcripts can be emailed to the Davidson-Davie Admissions office at admissions@davidsondavie.edu or mailed to:

Transfer-In Students

If you have already been studying at another U.S. college or university, you need to complete all the above steps along with Davidson-Davie’s International Student Transfer Clearance Form to receive your I-20.

Complete Before Entry to the United States

I-20 and Visa

In order to enter the United States as an F-1 student, you will need to have a Visa and Form I-20 among other documents. After you have been accepted to study at Davidson-Davie Community College, you will receive your I-20. To apply for the student visa, you will need to go to the U.S. embassy or consulate nearest to you in your home country. The link below provides additional information about how to successfully apply for a student visa.

Complete Upon Arrival to the U.S.

  1. Complete Davidson-Davie Placement Tests
    1. Placement assessments are tools that measure your skills in reading, writing and math. Davidson-Davie uses scores from assessments to place you in your class.
  2. Attend International Student Orientation
    1. Orientation will give you a general idea of what to expect as a college student in the United States. It will introduce you to our campus through a physical tour and an overview of our online learning tools.
    2. Complete Check-In Form, FERPA Consent Form, Rights and Responsibilities Form
    3. Bring passport, I-94, I-20, and Visa
    4. Information on Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Optional Practical Training (OPT), and working while in the U.S. will be provided.
  3. Complete advising to schedule classes if you have not already done so (required after entry).

Complete at Start of Each Semester

1. Complete International Student Semester Check-In Form and return to Designated School Official (DSO)

Complete at Start of Final Semester

    1. Complete International Student Exit Plan Options Form and return to Designated School Official (DSO)
    2. Complete International Student Exit Survey and return to Designated School Official (DSO)

English Language Requirement Exemptions

Students who have obtained their secondary school diploma and/or a bachelor’s degree from any of the following countries are exempt from the English language requirement. The list, taken from U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) website, only includes countries where English is spoken by at least 70% of the population or is listed as the only language spoken.
