DCCC Storm Women’s Volleyball Program Announces 2017-2018 Roster

Suzanne Michael, head coach for the DCCC Women’s Volleyball team, is pleased with the caliber of the 2017-2018 roster. “I believe we will have a successful season.  We are a young team this year, all freshmen except for one sophomore. I hope to build on this and develop an outstanding team for next year,” said Michael.

The DCCC Storm women’s volleyball program has established itself as a perennial regional and national contender since its inaugural year in 2007. The Storm quickly rose in the ranks to become one of the elite Division III women’s volleyball teams in the country under the NJCAA, building an impressive overall record of 113 wins and 52 losses and a conference record of 47 wins and nine losses. This is Michael’s second year as head coach.  Previously the Lexington native had been a coach and the Director of High Rock Volleyball Club since 2000.

The 2017-2018 roster includes: Florentina Parra, uniform # 6, a defensive specialist/setter from Jamestown, NC; Courtney Wagner, uniform #17, a middle hitter from Salisbury, NC; Katie Solvig, uniform number #17, a middle hitter from Senegal, West Africa; Olivia Owen uniform # 2, a Libero from High Point, NC; Mackenzie Bradford, uniform # 8, a right side hitter from Greensboro, NC; Cheyenne Ashby uniform # 1, a right side hitter from Lexington, NC; Summer Manuel uniform # 4, a defensive specialist from Atlanta, GA; Krystina McGrady uniform #5, an outside hitter from China Grove, NC; Harley Scott uniform #16, a defensive specialist from Thomasville, NC; Emily Barber uniform #3, a setter from Kannapolis, NC.

This year’s Team Captain and an outside hitter is Savannah Stevenson, uniform # 7, from Denton, NC. Stevenson is the team’s only sophomore.

Michael’s is excited about the energy of the players. “The fact that we are so young means that we are all going to grow together as a team.  I am excited to see such an ambitious group of girls who are willing to come in and work hard at practice to develop their skills to become even better players.  I’m excited for the unity the team has already shown and the acceptance of one another.”  The team invites fans to follow their schedule atwww.davidsonccc.edu. “We have really focused on spending quality time in the gym during practices and working on team building, so we are all comfortable with one another.  We are looking forward to a great season!  GO STORM!”
