DCCC Offers Free Tax Preparation for the Public

Davidson County Community College welcomes the public to take advantage of free tax preparation services on the Davidson Campus. The adjusted gross income of the taxpayer must equal less than $65,000. Income must also be reported on W-2s and/or 1099s. A social security or individual tax identification number card is required for each person claimed as a dependent on the return. A photo ID for each taxpayer is also needed.

Tax preparation appointments can be made by calling 336-224-4569. For more information on available appointment times, what to bring, and eligibility, visit www.DavidsonCCC.edu/singlestop.

The free tax preparation services are part of Single Stop at DCCC. Single Stop is a new campus resource that seeks to serve as a one-stop shop to connect students to campus and community support services.

“It is my hope that students will utilize Single Stop services to learn more about the many resources available to them,” says Stacy Waters-Bailey, director of Single Stop at DCCC. “The goal is to keep students in school and attending class. Single Stop will help take some of the stress off students by connecting them to the resources they need.”

Single Stop is a national initiative that aims to provide college students with a place they can turn to for connections to support services they may not know about or may need assistance navigating. Single Stop helps students by offering a screener that shows government benefits, local community resources, and campus resources. The staff of the Single Stop office provide assistance and follow-up with students throughout the process of accessing benefits from application to receipt of benefits. Benefits and services include Food Stamps, child care assistance, Medicaid, counseling, free tax preparation, financial counseling, and legal referrals.

With the exception of the free tax preparation services that are available to the public, all additional Single Stop resources are exclusively available for DCCC students. Single Stop at DCCC is made possible by a grant awarded from the Belk Foundation.
