Current DCCC Student Interns with Global Manufacturing Company
Thomasville, N.C. September 23, 2015 Davidson County Community College is proud to announce the beginning of a student internship program for transfer students with GESIPA® Fasteners USA, Inc. As a world-leading manufacturer, GESIPA® builds Blind Fastening Systems for building, automotive and agriculture industries.
DCCC faculty member, Amy Holmes recently completed an internship with the Davie County Partnership for Workforce Development in the summer of 2015. During Holmes’ internship with Partnership for Workforce Development, she had the opportunity to visit four companies in the Davie County area. One of Holmes’ visits was with GESIPA®, a company that has manufacturing locations in North Carolina, Louisiana, Germany, England, and China. Holmes realized while visiting GESIPA® that DCCC transfer students would strongly benefit from an internship with the company and gain exposure to different skills necessary for any industry.
Holmes then worked with several GESIPA® employees to develop an internship program open to transfer students enrolled in DCCC’s Associate in Arts or Science Program. GESIPA® welcomed the idea of the program Holmes and her team developed. Currently, students that take course ACA 122 College Transfer Success at the Davie Campus and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 are able to apply for the internship. Holmes states, ” I am delighted that GESIPA® was open to this concept. The critical thinking gained by students during this time with GESIPA® is vital to their future.”
Dennis Argueta is a current DCCC student who is interning with GESIPA® this semester. Argueta is responsible for a variety of projects within different departments that help him to develop skills necessary for becoming a well-rounded employee. Argueta will graduate in May 2016 and plans to attend UNC Charlotte and major in civil engineering.
