DCCC Announces Golden LEAF Scholars

Eight students receive support for continued studies

Davidson County Community College is pleased to announce the Spring 2016 Golden LEAF Scholars. Eight students from Davie, Randolph and Stanly counties have received scholarships from the Golden LEAF Foundation. Five of the students are enrolled in the curriculum program and three are occupational education students. The students and their courses of study are as follows:

 

Curriculum Students

Michelle Barrier – Associate in Arts

Krystle Beal – Practical Nurse Education

Jessica Martin – Medical Assisting

Stephanie Reece – Practical Nurse Education

Tocarra Steele – Practical Nurse Education

 

Occupational Education Students

Hannah Hendrix – Nurse Assistant I

Anlly Gisselle Hernandez – Nurse Assistant I

Lillian Thornburg – Nurse Assistant I

 

“Financial support for many of our students makes the difference between them being able to gain the skills and pursue the education necessary for personal and professional advancement,” says Rhonda Coates, vice president of student affairs. “We are grateful to be able to offer students assistance through the Golden LEAF Foundation scholarship.”

The Golden LEAF Foundation provides scholarships to students in qualifying counties, who demonstrate financial need, to help them attend college at participating North Carolina public or private institutions or community colleges.

Since its inception, the Golden LEAF Foundation has awarded more than $32 million to help more than 13,700 students from rural North Carolina attend the state’s colleges and universities.
