Davidson-Davie named the Sector Hunger Champion for Community Colleges in the NC Collegiate Hunger Challenge

Davidson-Davie awarded $5000 in a student-led hunger challenge to address food insecurity

January 21, 2025 – Davidson-Davie Community College is the Sector Hunger Champion for Community College Campuses for the 2024 NC Collegiate Hunger Challenge, winning a $5,000 prize to support food insecurity initiatives on and around campus. A total of 14 North Carolina colleges and universities competed in the 2024 Challenge to accumulate points through various activities centered around addressing food insecurity and raising awareness about the issue. Davidson-Davie’s team was led by students Katrina Prickett and Emma (Lynn) Frausto and their staff/faculty mentors, Lynne Watts and Alana Dunlap.

 A check presentation ceremony to celebrate their efforts will occur on February 12, 2025, at NCCE’s annual Pathways to Achieving Civic Engagement Conference at The Conference Center at Guilford Technical Community College. 

The Collegiate Hunger Challenge was created by Food Lion Feeds, Food Lion’s hunger-relief platform, and North Carolina Campus Engagement, a collaborative network of colleges and universities committed to preparing students for civic and social responsibility. The partnership awarded one $10,000 overall prize and a $5,000 prize from each sector – community college, four-year public college and four-year independent institution.
