September 17, 2024 – Davidson-Davie Community College just made online education even more accessible with its launch of a brand-new initiative – Davidson-Davie Online. Dedicated solely to online students, this initiative showcases not only the online course options but also offers services and support for remote students. All of the content is available on the initiative’s website, Online.DavidsonDavie.edu
With an increasing number of students opting for online education, the website is a valuable supplemental tool to make navigating course options simple. “For the past several years, the number of students who take at least one online course has been increasing,” says Dori Lloyd, associate vice president of Teaching, Learning and Global Engagement at Davidson-Davie. “We also have an increasing number of online only students. This was a trend for us that started pre-COVID but has since accelerated.”
Lloyd notes that while online education is not new, the post-COVID era has seen an uptick in institutions nationwide experiencing growth in online learners. “More students now expect flexible options and prefer to engage online when possible,” Lloyd says. “Davidson-Davie is strategically growing online options to meet the needs of our students as an extension of our friendly community, while at the same time maintaining affordability and flexibility.”
On the website, students can apply and also view course options and career paths, some of which include accounting and finance, business administration, criminal justice, education programs, social and human services, information technology, supply chain management, college transfer options and more.
Online options are also available for more than post-high school students, says Dr. Christy Forrest, vice president of Academic Programs and Services for Davidson-Davie. “We have options for dual-enrolled high school students as well,” she explains. “If a dual enrolled student is interested in online options, they can either talk with their high school counselor or Davidson-Davie representative and decide if online might be a good option for them.”
Once students enroll in online courses, help is always available in a number of ways, Forrest notes. “There are a lot of ways for online students to get support regardless of where they are in their educational journey,” she says. “There’s a dedicated email address for online students to address general information. Also, college personnel will help students navigate the enrollment process and establish a personalized plan that fits their needs. Once a student starts their online pathway, they will have the opportunity to reach out to instructors for guidance related to classwork, and tutoring and coaching is available 24/7 for most subjects.”
“Davidson-Davie is working to ensure that online students enjoy a quality and engaging online learning experience where they are supported through every step of the way,” Lloyd adds. “We want our online students to know that we have developed an educational pathway for them taking into consideration the unique needs of the online learner.”
