Working Outside of the EMS Box

ALS Convalescent Medic + Community Paramedicine in NC

Gone are the days where a medic could only work on an EMS unit. Today we find Paramedics in
many different fields including convalescent services and as Community Paramedics.

Although the local convalescent agency may indeed have a true emergency from time to time (and
run backup to local EMS), most of the response is non-emergent but highly critical for the health
and safety of patients. Additionally, Community Paramedics receive training in a variety of skills
sets outside of the traditional 911 service. These skills include chaplain services, hospice care,
health literacy training, digital literacy training, and public health outreach.

This course explores topics pertinent to the medic working outside the box – as the convalescent
and the Community Paramedic.
