This class is designed to provide both Police Officers and Sheriff’s Deputies with information necessary to help them make informed decisions on whether individuals they encounter have a right to occupy, possess, or otherwise exercise control over personal property, a residence or premises.
On of the goals is to assist officers in making the necessary decisions to determine whether or not an individual is a resident of a premises for legal purposes such as service of civil or criminal process, trespass, or removal from the premises.
Other issues include whether or not a landlord can exclude a person from the premises or evict a person without court process or engage in self-help repossessions or eviction, enforcing DV orders excluding persons from the residence and other similar questions about the landlord/tenant relationship and rights to personal and rea, property that officers encounter frequently.
