South Africa: Transformative Learning through Community Engagement
June 9 – 23, 2023
South Africa is a country located in the southernmost part of the continent of Africa. The country has 11 official languages including English, Afrikaans, and Zulu. South Africa is considered one of the most diverse countries in the world, with Cape Town being the heart of it all. Students from Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) and Davidson-Davie Community College (DDCC) are invited to apply for this faculty-led service-learning program in partnership with EDU Africa. Much of the program will consist of working alongside members of the Cape Town community in areas including healthcare, education, business/entrepreneurship, zoo and aquarium sciences, and social justice.

Participants will explore Cape Town’s city life, be educated on the HIV/AIDS impact, view the hospital where the world’s first successful heart transplant took place, explore the realms where the iconic Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, experience ethnic cuisine, and walk among the penguins of the famous Boulders Beach. Students will have the opportunity to be immersed in African culture, invest in education, and witness diversity firsthand.
This trip is intended for:
Students from Central Piedmont CC & Davidson-Davie CC. Community members are also allowed to join with the understanding that they will participate in all academic, service, and programmed activities.
You will experience
Service-learning, community involvement, history and culture.
