Greece, the birthplace of democracy and cradle of western civilization, offers extraordinary opportunities for a rich learning experience. Yet, Athens is also a vibrant modern metropolis thatThe Parthenon in Athens, Greece at sunset. remains affordable, safe, and friendly. During this 9-day program, participants will be able to deepen their knowledge and understanding of the Ancient Greek Civilization.  Part of this program will be based in Aegina, a beautiful island in the Saronic Gulf, 27 km from Athens. Visiting both Athens and Aegina will give participants the wonderful opportunity to get off the beaten path and to discover other locations, which were equally at the core of the development and the enrichment of both the country’s and the entire world’s culture.

This trip is intended for: Students, faculty, staff and community members.

You will experience: Cultural immersion, history and a touch of island life.

Associated Course

All participants must take HUM 120 for credit or the concurrent continuing education course. The class will meet on Thursday evenings from 6-7:15 p.m. during the first eight weeks of the spring semester of 2023. The class will also meet on the Thursday following the trip for a time of reflection. The cost of the continuing education class will be $49.

Payment Plan

Payments must be paid to our Business Office & can be made in person Mon. to Fri. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (except holidays). They are located on the 2nd floor of the Brooks Student Center on the Davidson Campus, or in the Administration building on the Davie Campus. You can also call 336.249.8186 ext. 6341 to make a payment over the phone.

After completing your Application Form, you will be contacted by the Director of International Education & one of the trip leaders & will be directed to pay a $200 non-refundable study abroad fee to the Davidson-Davie Community College business office to secure your spot. Keep in mind that space is limited and once the trip capacity is reached, applications will be closed, so pay your deposit as soon as possible to reserve your seat! Price and availability are subject to change.

Scholarship Info

Davidson-Davie Scholarships: All study abroad participants who will be a student at Davidson-Davie Community College during the 2024 spring semester & have completed at least 12 credit hours at Davidson-Davie will have the option of applying for partial scholarships. The application is now open and the deadline to apply is Sunday, September 17, by midnight. Keep a check on the DDCC Study Abroad Scholarship Application page for updates.

Gilman Scholarship: If you receive a Pell grant, you are eligible to apply for the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship which may cover up to the entire cost of the study abroad program. Keep an eye on the Gilman Scholarship info page (linked below) for deadlines. The application opens mid-August 2023 & the deadline is Thursday, Oct. 5, 2023.
