2022 Small Business of the Year Awards

On Thursday, October 20, 2022, the Lexington, North Davidson, and Thomasville Chambers of Commerce along with the Davidson-Davie Community College Small Business Center presented the annual Small Business of the Year Awards.  The event was held at the Rittling Conference Center, home of the Davidson-Davie Small Business Center.

Davidson-Davie Small Business Center Vision Award:

The Davidson-Davie Small Business Center awarded its first “Vision” award for an upcoming business that exemplified the planning process necessary to succeed in business.  This year’s winner met the criteria for developing a feasible, market-ready business plan including a feasibility study that will be implemented at the beginning of the New Year.

The Davidson-Davie 2022 Vision Award, presented by Sharon Styffe, Director of the Small Business Center was awarded to Mahalaville Farms, LLC., owners Angie and Jay Mahala, located at 465 Cress Road, Lexington, NC 27292-9399.  The Mahala’s are producers of clean, high quality, fresh and dried specialty mushrooms for residential and business customers using a sustainable process that also produces organic compost that also meets the demand in a second residential market, one that estimates show is valued at approximately $363.2MM in the U.S.

Chamber of Commerce Small Business Awards:

Selected from community entries for superior service, this year’s distinguished winners of the 2022 Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year Awards are:

Lexington Area Chamber of Commerce, presented by Joe Wallace, Chamber President went to The Smoke & Oak, owner Courtney Crowson, a premium bourbon and cigar lounge located at 127 W Center Street, Lexington, NC  27292.

North Davidson County Chamber of Commerce presented by Ashley Lay, Chamber President went to Nick’s Old Fashion Hamburger House, owners Jeremy and Casey Haynes, using fresh, never-frozen local meats, hand-rolled each day, located at 6999 Old U.S. Hwy 52, Lexington, NC 27295.

Thomasville Area Chamber of Commerce, presented by Keith Tobin, Chamber President went to Rosa Mae’s Café and Catering, owners Beth & Jim Davis, delivers home-cooked meals made from the freshest ingredients, located at 709 National Hwy, Thomasville, NC 27360.
